Chess is a classic strategy board game played on an 8×8 board. Each player controls 16 pieces and takes turns moving one piece at a time. The goal is to outthink your opponent and place their king in a position where it cannot escape capture.
🎯 Objective of the Game
To checkmate the opponent’s king — meaning the king is under attack and cannot move to a safe square.
🧩 Chess Pieces & Movement
Each player has:
- 1 King – Moves one square in any direction
- 1 Queen – Moves any number of squares in any direction
- 2 Rooks – Move any number of squares horizontally or vertically
- 2 Bishops – Move any number of squares diagonally
- 2 Knights – Move in an “L” shape (can jump over pieces)
- 8 Pawns – Move forward one square (two squares on first move)
▶️ How to Play
- The player with white pieces moves first.
- Players take turns moving one piece per turn.
- Pieces capture opponent pieces by moving onto their square.
- The king must always be protected and cannot be left in check.

A special move involving the king and rook, allowed once per game under specific conditions.
Pawn Promotion
When a pawn reaches the opposite end of the board, it can be promoted to a queen, rook, bishop, or knight.
